GDS Jazz & Creative Music explores repertoire from the classic jazz songbooks including Charles Mingus, Sun Ra, The Bad Plus, Sidney Bechet, Ornette Coleman, and Tin Pan Alley. In addition to all styles of jazz, the high school program explores improvised music by Anthony Braxton, John Zorn, Wadada Leo Smith, and original compositions by students. Directed by Brad Linde, GDS Jazz & Creative Music enjoys traveling to festivals and competitions, as well as hosting guest artists in residencies and festival appearances.
