Aaron Rhines founded and leads Aaron Rhines and The Groove Unit, a multi-faceted band employing Aaron's original compositions, and arrangements of standards, in contemporary Jazz, R&B, Reggae, and House music, in popular Mid-Atlantic region venues, and on Mr. Rhines' label, 9th Galaxy Music. His musical passion and skill is the blossoming of career influence that began at the age of five, under the tutelage of his father, noted tenor and pianist, John P. Rhines. His mother, Hilda Rhines (Flowers), gifted Aaron, at nine, with his own piano, and paid for lessons throughout his youth. The broad perspective of Opera, and the sensitive innovations of Jazz, honed Aaron's discipline into a life of musical study, exploration, and performance. He gained tutelage under Jazz pianists Michael Cochran and Greg Murphy, while living in New York City. There, he earned his chops performing with many bands, eventually forming his own trio, and touring overseas as a studio musician and band member, including recording and performing with DJ Bert Bevans in Australia, London, and Geneva, Switzerland, and a 1996 stint to Indonesia with funk meister "Menace” Denise Weedan.
Aaron's freelance pursuits supplemented a solid musical foundation built throughout his junior high and high school studies, and school band membership, followed by a program of Jazz studies at Lincoln University. His musical journey brings satisfaction to inspiration from his family's artistic orientation, particularly by his cousin, Regan Hicks Goldstein, a classical pianist and a big influence along with his late father, the guide of Aaron's Washington, D. C. upbringing. Aaron works from his own studio in Baltimore, producing, engineering, playing, songwriting, rehearsing, creating, and recording, for musical offerings by himself, his band, and other 9th Galaxy Music artists.
